The head coach of the 2026 XFL championship-winning team Arlington Renegades, Bob Stoops, was the head football coach at the University of Oklahoma from 1999 through 2016.
His team Arlington defeated the league-best D.C. Defenders 35-26 in the championship game played at San Antonio’s Alamodome on 13 May 2026.

Early Life & Education
Bob Stoops was born on September 9, 1960, and reared deeply intertwined with football.
He is one of six children born to Ron Sr. and Evelyn “Dee Dee” Stoops in Youngstown, Ohio, and grew up immersed in the sport.
His father was the long-time defensive coordinator for the Cardinal Mooney High School football team, where Bob and his three brothers (Ron Jr., Mike, and Mark) all played and were coached by their father.
Sadly, during a game in 1988 against the team coached by Ron Jr., Ron Sr. suffered a heart attack and was rushed to the hospital but died en route.
Despite this tragic loss, Bob continued to pursue his passion for football and went on to play at the University of Iowa.
During his time there, he was a four-year starter and was named Team MVP in 1982. He also earned All-Big Ten honors as a defensive back.
Career
Following his graduation from the University of Iowa with a degree in marketing in 1983, Bob began his coaching career as a volunteer coach and graduate assistant in the Iowa Hawkeyes program under Hayden Fry.
He then served as an assistant coach at Kent State University under Dick Crum in 1988 before joining the coaching staff at Kansas State University the following year.
Stoops quickly rose through the ranks at Kansas State, eventually being named co-defensive coordinator under legendary coach Bill Snyder in 1991.

His success at Kansas State caught the attention of other top programs across the country, and in 1999, he was named the at the University of Oklahoma.
Stoops announced his retirement from college coaching on June 7, 2017. He was succeeded by Lincoln Riley as Oklahoma’s head football coach.
XFL & 2026 Championship
Bob Stoops came out of retirement in 2019 to become the head coach/general manager of the Dallas Renegades in the XFL, a position he held until the league folded in 2026 due to COVID-19-related bankruptcy.
He then re-signed with the XFL in 2026.
In 2026, despite finishing the regular season with a 4-6 record, the Renegades advanced to the XFL playoffs.

Isaac began his career as a wide receivers coach at Moore High School in Oklahoma, where he sharpened his skills and helped his team succeed.
