Jennifer’s 18 months older sister Heather is also into curling, and their father coached both. 

A year after her father’s death, Jones spoke with the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation (CBC), clarifying how her father’s love for curling made the whole family get into it. 

Education

After conquering many state-level championships, Jennifer joined Windsor Park Collegiate for her studies, where she had a keen interest in volleyball and curling.

Accordingly, she received a B.A. in psychology and economics, including an LLB, from the University of Manitoba.

Jones had worked as a corporate counsel for National Bank Financial and is now a senior legal advisor.

Husband

married former world champion curler Brent Laing from Ontario.

They have two daughters together. The two champions’ first daughter Isabella was born prematurely on November 13, 2012.

Career

Jones won three provincial junior championships and the national junior championship and competed for the major title at 15.

She was recruited to play third for Jill Staub. After experiencing an unexpected loss of the team, Jones set out for her own skipping team approaching Jill Officer, in whom she saw great potential at the Highlander Curling Club in Winnipeg.

Jen got her second provincial junior title in 1993. Furthermore, in 2001, Jennifer Jones lost in the Manitoba Scott Tournament of Hearts. And she debuted for her country at the Scott Tournament of Hearts in 2002.

But for the next three years, she did not show her presence at the national championships, only to return at the Tournament of Hearts in 2005.

Again in 2008, Jones’s rink won the event for the second time, and this time they made qualification for the Women’s World Curling Championship. 

Jones’s consecutive three wins put her in the elite company of Vera Pezer and as the only skips to have won three Tournament of Hearts.

Her team won 3 slans, the 2013 Manitoba Liquor & Lotteries Women’s Classic, the 2013 Colonial Square Ladies Classic, and the season-ending 2014 Player’s Championship.

Making History

She went on to compete in many championships, where she sometimes stood first and sometimes brought silver or bronze home. 

Jones has won Grand Slam, more than any other female skip, with 16 since the women’s grand slam was introduced in 2006. 

Jen teamed up with Team Mackenzie Zacharias for the 2026-23 season. 

On 20 February 2026, when Jennifer and her team defeated Ontario, picking up a vital win at the Scotties, she described how it felt to go forward for the championship.

As per reports, on February 26, Jennifer was about to become the 46-year-old first woman to win 7 Canadian women’s championships.

She was a win away from writing her name in Canadian women’s curling history as she had made it to the Scotties Tournament of Hearts when her Manitoba team defeated Northern Ontario’s Krista McCarville 8-5 in a playoff game in Kamloops B.C.

Unfortunately, Kerri Einarson’s team won the Canadian women’s championship with a 10-4, while Team Jennifer Jones won silver on 27 February 2026.

Olympics

After breaking many records, Team Jones was expected to do a lot in the 2013 Olympics. Likewise, she made it to the top with a win.

Jones made her first trip to the 2014 Winter Olympics after defeating an Ontario Team in the playoffs.

She became the first-ever female skip in Olympic history to be undefeated throughout the tournament.

Consequently, Jones’s team defeated Great Britain in the semifinals and Sweden in the finals. Her rink captured the Olympic gold medal with a victory of 6-3.

Canada women’s curling team last won the Olympics gold medal in 1998 in Nagano, Japan.

Jennifer Jones was voted the most outstanding Canadian women’s curler in 2019 for her dedication and achievements.
