Trent Williams and San Francisco 49ers
On April 25, 2026, the Washington Redskins traded Trent Williams in exchange for a fifth-round pick in the 2026 NFL Draft. Furthermore, Redskins also can gain a third-round pick in the 2026 NFL Draft.
Apparently, he also became a great help to the 49ers after Joe Staley’s retirement. Alongside leading the team, he was elected to his eighth Pro Bowl in his first season.
Furthermore, Williams was also one of the best available free agents this offseason. Indeed, teams like the Kansas City Chiefs and Chicago Bears had already shown their interest in the player.
However, the 49ers stated straight forward they wanted Williams to be in their team, and no matter what!
Therefore, Niners grabbed the first chance right after the market opened and the legal tampering period ended.

Also, Williams and Niners’ relationship was like a pull and push technique. Even though Williams wanted a re-sign with the team, he wanted the vast opportunities for a premier tackle.
“San Francisco would be the leading candidate. So even if it does make it to free agency, it won’t be because I’m trying to go somewhere else.
It may simply be because I want to see my value. It’s been 11 years in this league, and I have yet to see a franchise left tackle go to the open market. I think it would be interesting to see what [my] value holds.”
Background
As the 49ers had shown their interest, so did Williams put forward his willingness to be with the team. During his free agency tenure, Williams opened up with the Podcast about his interest.
Apparently, Williams missed 2019 mostly due to a dispute with the club over injury and contract issues. Before entering the Niners, Williams had played no more than 16 games in a season.
Still, he portrayed elite left tackle, which wooed every team towards him.
Next Steps…
Now, after the big deal with Williams, the San Francisco 49ers are set to re-sign fullback Kyle Juszczyk and cornerback .
Additionally, according to Dianna Russini, they may also pursue a free-agent center, Alex Mack. Furthermore, they are also planning to take chances from their own free agents as cornerback K’Waun Williams.
Other teams as Kansas City, have signed, and Chicago signed Germain Ifedi. Before the deal, Kansas had made $18.25 million in cap space for the team.
Alongside the six-year deal
As we all have been hearing, every coin has two sides! So, is the deal only what it is? As a straight face, it does have its own share of consequences alongside being the embroidered deal.

Apparently, with the deal, Williams’ cap hit for the 2026 season will be lowered by the Niners.
Although it’s a small detail given the NFL’s situation, however, with a closer look, there are only three players at this position with a high amount of deal.
Practically speaking, even if Williams has showcased the elite performances, it doesn’t change the fact that Williams only held a full 16-game slate all the way back in 2013.
So as questions arise, is the deal worth the way? Anyways, if Trent Willams and the Niners can sustain for six seasons under the terms, they both will have paved the path for themselves.
