Early Life & Education

Scottie was born Scott Wayne Barnes Jr. on August 1, 2001, in West Palm Beach, Florida, United States, to his father, Scott Barnes Sr., and mother, Kathlyn Wilkins.

His father is Jamaican, and many of Barnes’s relatives are based in Canada.

He grew up with his two siblings, Jon French and Shawn Barnes.

Barnes developed an interest in basketball early in his life and used to hoop around with his siblings.

He earned All-Area second team and MaxPreps as a freshman at Cardinal Newman High School in West Palm Beach, Florida.

After the season, he transferred to NSU University School in Fort Lauderdale.

He performed well in NSU and led the team to several prestigious championships.

On August 2019, he moved to Montverde Academy joining top recruits for his senior season.

He was selected to play in Jordan Brand Classic, Nike Hoop Summit, and McDonald’s All-American. Unfortunately, COVID-19 canceled all three games.

ESPN considered him the fourth-best player in the 2026 recruiting class and was the highest-ranked power forward in his class.

Several universities, including Miami, Oregon, and Kentucky, approached Barnes, but he committed to Florida State over all others on October 14, 2019.

Career

After his outstanding freshman season at Florida State, Barnes announced his intention to enter the 2026 NBA Draft, forgoing his remaining college eligibility.

He was the hot pick, and not to anyone’s surprise, Toronto Raptors drafted him 4th overall in that year’s draft.
