Tottenham 0-2 Chelsea: Women’s Super League

Sam Kerr scored the goal twice to leave Chelsea two points clear at the Women’s Super League summit with just one round of the fixtures left to play.

Chelsea is very close to finishing the Women’s Super League title with a real comfortable victory over the stubborn side of Tottenham Hotspur.

Spurs goalkeeper made several savings before Sam Kerr put the Blues ahead. With a slight angle four minutes before the half.

Sam Kerr made the score 2-0 just after the break. It was her 20th league goal of the season.

The Blues, who are still hunting for four historical moments, are now clearly two points high at the top of the table.

Emma Hayes’ side is aware that a win against Reading on the final day of the campaign on Sunday will see them win the title at Manchester City.

Blues goalkeeper Ann-Katrin Berger had little to do with the visitors’ professionalism. However, the Germans had to find her body behind Lucy Quinn’s angled drive.

Rianna Dean sent a long-range effort to Spurs. She ran unbeaten in the league to ten games.

Chelsea continues to produce results at the end of the season’s business. Their seventh win in eight league games placing them on the brink of a fourth WSL title.

Spurs boss Rehanne Skinner says:

“We have played with Chelsea twice. So I’m well aware of the challenges you face when they are in this kind of form.

“All the credit goes to them. They are still in the running for this quadruple. And that surely will be a massive step for them and a real positive for women’s football.

“Furthermore, We must have got to keep working on strengthening our side. And continue on the journey that we are on here at Spurs. Moreover, to evolve our squad and also be in a better position to compete next year.”

Chelsea manager Emma Hayes says:

“This [game vs. Reading] will be the cup final for us, and I will face it. We have to win the game.

“As coaches, we want everything. Some people have played a lot of football in the last few weeks, which is another debt for the whole team for winning.

“Bayern’s game has taken lots of us emotionally. Therefore, I was wondering how our performance will be today.”

Sam Kerr said:

 “I thought they defended very well. Tottenham has had some big blocks.” says the scorer of Chelsea’s two goals when being asked about Tottenham in an interview with BT Sport. 

“They worked hard in and around their box. And it was not an easy win.”

While being asked, she was relieved at scoring the first goal: “It is always hard to come away and score the first goal. Plus, there was a lot on the line. It was a big goal for us, and it was nice to get it just before half-time.”

On being the leading scorer in the WSL: “It’s more important that we win on Sunday. That is the only most important thing to me,” she says. 

“It is all about what I receive payment. But for me, winning the league is most important. Moreover, we will deal with all of that type of stuff after. We still have got two massive games to come, and we do want to win it all.”
