Early Life And Education

Will Bynum grew up in Chicago, Illinois, with his parents and eight siblings.

His father, William Robinson, died in 2007, suffering from lung cancer. He worked in a steel factory, making it easier to catch up with the deadly disease.

Talking about his mother, Rose Robinson, was a diabetic patient. And as a single mother, she worked hard to provide food for all her children.

As Bynum grew up in Chicago, he started his formal education in Richard High while playing with the basketball team and was exceptionally terrific at it.

Even as a kid, Bynum recognized his inclination toward basketball. He used to join wild pickup games with grown men to learn tips and tricks.

He helped the school win several titles during the time. And after his graduation event, Bynum joined the Arizona university to complete his bachelor’s degree.

But within some time, Bynum got to experience and learn more in the Georgia State of Technology with the men’s basketball team.

As of now, Bynum has already celebrated his 43th birthday.

Amateur Career

Will Bynum completed his high school at Richard T.Crane High.

In his junior year, he made 22 points, four rebounds, and seven assists per game, leading a 20-9 record to advance to the Class AA Elite Eight for earning all-state honors.

For senior year Bynum signed a National Letter of Intent to play at the University of Arizona.

Bynum was featured in a documentary in 2001, namely “Preps: Chicago Hoops,” highlighting five Chicago high school basketball stars who got to college or NBA.

Will scored three straight double-figure twice in 2001-02, finishing the year with nine-double-figures for Arizona.

After Arizona’s 10-game tour of Australia, he returned to his hospitalized mother.

Playing just eight games in Arizona, he decided to join Georgia Tech to play with their team Yellow Jackets.

As of 2003-04, he scored an average of 9.6 points, 2.2 rebounds, and 2.5 assists helping Georgia Tech become a National Runner-Up.

For the 2004-05 season, he got selected for an ACC Tournament where he scored the record of 35 points in the semi-final victory over North Carolina.

Professional Career

After being undrafted in the 2005 NBA draft, he played six games for Boston Celtics in the 2005 NBA Summer League. 

Golden State Warriors tested Bynum with a 10-day contract, finally deciding on him for the 2005-06 season.

He was named NBA D-League Rookie of the Year towards the end of the season. 

Also, Bynum led Maccabi Tel Aviv to win the 2007 Israeli Basketball Premier League championship. He also won the 2007 Israeli Basketball Premier League Finals MVP.

Will joined the Pistons for the 2008 NBA Summer League. In the game with Charlotte Bobcats, he suffered a right-hand injury resulting in ligament damage but still made 32 points leading the Pistons to a 104-97 victory.

In a game with Washington Wizards, he became the second player in Piston’s history to give 20 or more assists in a game.

He played for four more years with Detriot in a three-year and a two-year contract.

For Guangdong Southern Tigers of the Chinese Basketball Association in 2014, he scored 22.3 points and 1.5 steals in 30 games as a replacement player. 

Bynum went for Washington Wizards for the 2015-16 season and later had a short period with Atlanta Hawks and Windy City Bulls. In 2018, he signed with a Turkish club.
