Eddie House is an American former professional basketball player who played eleven seasons in the NBA until 2011. He currently works as an NBA analyst on NBC Sports Boston.

The player had started his NBA journey back in 2000 after the Miami Heat selected him in the draft. Since then, House played for eight other NBA teams before his retirement.

However, the most significant achievement of his basketball career was when he won the NBA title with the Boston Celtics in 2008. Although his performance in that season was not outstanding, he earned a moment to cherish for the rest of his life.

Eddie House | Early Life & Family

Edward Lee House II, commonly known as Eddie House, was born on May 14, 1978, in Berkeley, California, United States. He is the son of California residents Edward House and Deborah Buck. 

Besides him, they had two sons, namely Diallo and Mychal House. Even though Eddie was born in Berkeley, his parents later shifted to Union City in California.

So, he and his siblings mostly spent their childhood and attended primary and middle schools there.

Eddie grew up playing basketball and watching it on television with his brothers and family members. Both his parents keenly watched the NBA.

Education

Over time, House became confident and dreamed of becoming an NBA player when he had not even started high school. However, he was pretty lean and short as a kid, and for that reason, people doubted that he would make ever make it up to the professional level.

After passing middle school, he initially attended James Logan High School in Logan City. Sadly, the team management did not deem him fit for their varsity team, and this hit him hard.

His parents did not want to see their child give up his dream readily, and consequently, they admitted him to another school named Hayward High School in a nearby city. Eddie continued his studies there until his graduation in 2000.

He later enrolled in Arizona State University in Tempe for his further studies.

High School Career

Eddie House played high school basketball for the Hayward High School in Hayward city. He primarily played as a guard, and although he was undersized, his stats were always satisfactory.

House showed up as one of the highest point scorers in his first year, and he continued performing well right up to the end of his school years. For his performance in his junior and senior years, he was named All-Hayward Area Athletic League.

In addition, he was honored with All-Eastbay in the last two seasons. After completing high school, Eddie had wanted to enroll in the University of California, Berkeley but his high school coaches recommended him otherwise.

College Career

Eddie House played four full college seasons for the Arizona State Sun Devils. While with the Sun Devils, he improved a lot as a player and emerged as one of the most successful point scorers and stealers from his college.

House is the only player in ASU’s history to score more than 2000 points. He has scored 2,044 points to become the college’s all-time leading scorer, and the record stands even now.

Eddie started his freshman season with a blast and finished it with an average of 12.6 points and 2.8 rebounds per game. After that season, his performance only kept getting better.

House finished his senior season with a record-high average of 23.0 points and 5.5 rebounds per game. During these same years, he developed his skills to score three-pointers, for which he later became popular in the NBA.

Professional Career

The Miami Heat chose Eddie House as the 2000 NBA draft’s 37th overall pick. Although the Heat picked him as one of the last choices, the club showed faith in him, and therefore, he played 50 matches in his rookie season.

House finished his first-ever NBA season with an average of 5.0 points and 1.0 rebounds per game. He played two more seasons with the Miami Heat before moving to the Los Angeles Clippers in 2003.

After playing an average season with the Clippers, he played for three different NBA clubs in a single season. Among them, his game with the Charlotte Bobcats was an outstanding one.

The following season, he played with the Phoenix Suns. This season was remarkable as he got an opportunity to play in all 81 games of the match this season. On top of that, he improved his game as well.

After the Celtics released him, he played in the NBA for two more years for two different clubs, namely New York Knicks and Miami Heat. He declared his announcement in 2011 after the Heat released him without letting him play a single match in the 2011-12 season.

Following his retirement from his playing career, House chose to be a media person and currently works as an analyst on NBC Sports Boston.

Eddie earned more than $2 million for his games for clubs such as LA Clippers, Milwaukee Bucks, and Charlotte Hornets until 2005. The Phoenix Suns offered him around $835k for the 2005-06 season.

Mike was Charlsie’s older brother, which made him Eddie’s brother-in-law. House also played NBA together with Mike for the Sacramento Kings and the Miami Heat much later.

Charlsie was born to former NBA player  in New Jersey. She fell in love after seeing House together with her brother as they were very close when they were students.

The couple later married and gave birth to three children. Their first son, Jaelen, was born in Arizona on May 2, 2001. Similarly, later, Charlsie gave birth to their twin children, Kalek and Kaden.

All his children have grown as nearly tall as him, and they too aspire to become NBA players in the future. His elder son, Jaelen, currently plays as a guard for the University of New Mexico’s basketball team, the Lobos.

In 2010, there was a report of an incident where the grandfather of two baseball players, Gerard and Brandon Laird, allegedly touched Charlsie and tried to assault her. Consequently, the tension escalated and nearly created a brawl scene.

The Phoenix Police arrested two baseball players after they messed up with Verve Energy Lounge security guards, where that incident happened. But, Charlsie did not file any case against those involved.

However, House and Charlsie have already divorced. He is now in a relationship with a real estate agent named Raquel Vidal.
